Conference call Smart Phone

They don't call smart phones "smart" for nothing. No longer tethered to the office, you are now able to conduct business virtually anywhere. In the past, if you had a conference call scheduled, you'd need to go into the office in order to participate. In the not-so-distant past, you could use a mobile phone to participate in a conference call away from the office, but you'd still need to be close to a computer in case you needed to pull up files during the teleconference. Now, you can participate in a conference call using your smart phone from just about anywhere while also having access to the information that you might need during the call.

Benefits of Attending a Conference Call Using Your Smart Phone

Using your smart phone to attend a teleconference is far more convenient than sitting at a desk using a corded handset. Not only can you move around, you can call from anywhere: your home, your office, the airport lounge, or even the beach while on vacation.

In addition to being able to participate in a teleconference while you're on the go, you'll have access to information when you attend the conference call using your smart phone. For example, if you need to discuss data in a spreadsheet, you can switch to your iPhone's spreadsheet app as needed during the call. Likewise, if the conference call incorporates a Web conferencing element, you'll be able to access the Web portal during the call.

Conference Calling Using Your Smart Phone Tips

When using your iPhone, Blackberry, or other smart phone to attend a teleconference, you'll need to take the following into consideration:

Use a headset, not the speakerphone. Remember, that any noise (including the sounds of crashing waves on the beach) on your end could potentially disrupt the call. By using a noise cancelling headset, you'll reduce ambient noise. It's also good practice to use the mute feature when in a noisy area.
Turn off your smart phone's system sounds and alerts. You don't need to broadcast the fact that you just received an email or text message to the rest of the group.
Make sure that your phone is fully charged and that signal strength is strong.
Be aware of any charges you may incur including long distance and roaming charges.
Avoid the temptation to multitask. While your smart phone is equipped with apps and you could technically respond to incoming messages without anyone being the wiser, you'd be doing a disservice to yourself and the other participants if you don't pay attention to the teleconference wholeheartedly.
If you're hosting the conference call using your smart phone, consider using your smart phone's timer to help you manage the teleconference's time.
If you're hosting the teleconference, look for a calling plan with a group dial-out feature. You can pre-program all participants' phone numbers and automatically dial all everyone at once with such a feature - even if you are using your smart phone to initiate the conference call.
Whether you're in your office or participating in a teleconference on a mobile basis, using your smart phone is a smart way to call in. Not only do you have the ability to call from virtually anywhere, you also have access to information stored on your phone as well as the ability to access the Web if needed. The convenience can't be beat; however, you'll need to make sure to fully charge your phone and minimize ambient noise.
